At Urban Radish, the Prep + Soup / Salad Chef is an important position in the kitchen and is responsible for preparing exceptional quality culinary dishes, in particular deli salads, lunch short-order dishes, Urban Radish’s line of house-made vegan soups.  In addition, the candidate would be maintaining ordering needs for our soup and salad production and ensuring the kitchen is clean and well-maintained.

Estimated Work Hours:  35-40 hours/week.   Day or evening shift 4-5 days a week, including Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday

Responsibilities:

Food Preparation:

  • Prep ingredients according to daily task list
  • Prep all dressings and marinades utilized by the kitchen
  • Execute the production and packaging of soups and salads according to recipes
  • Ensure highest level of food quality, taste and presentation
  • Ensure adherence to recipes and product specifications
  • Provide support in all aspect of food production as directed by Urban Radish’s Head Garde Manger

Kitchen Operations / Administration:

  • Assist in maintaining an extremely clean and sanitary work environment in the kitchen and walk-in cooler areas
  • Conduct regular inspections of the entire kitchen/dishwashing areas and coolers and promptly act to correct deficiencies
  • Support the daily food and kitchen supply ordering process

Team Participation:

  • Offer and accept skills training as part of a culture of ongoing professional growth and development
  • Enforce strict adherence to health department and food handling guidelines
  • Promote effective communication within the kitchen as well as between the kitchen and other departments in the business, including produce, butchery, and grocery

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Scheduling flexibility is required and candidates should be prepared to work at least one weekend day.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Intermediate understanding of professional cooking with strong knife handling and cutting skills, including cutting, chopping, carving, dicing.
  • Intermediate line cook skills proficiency
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Previous kitchen management/supervisory experience required
  • Fast, neat, clean and organized

Skills / Aptitude:

  • Strong work ethic and stable work history
  • Professional communication skills
  • Ability to take direction as well as constructive criticism
  • Highly organized with excellent follow up skills and extreme attention to detail 
  • Understanding of a "sense of urgency" attitude for the completion of responsibilities/tasks 
  • Ability to follow all kitchen safety requirements

License / Qualifications:

  • Food handlers permit required
  • Must be able to work days, weekends and some holidays
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand basic cooking directions
