Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager is a new position as a result of our rapid growth.  Reporting to the Controller, this position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day corporate accounting functions from general ledger, journal entries to financial statement reporting.  The Accounting Manager will play an important role in supporting the company's growth by working closely with finance, accounting, development, operations, facilities and third party provider teams to ensure accurate accounting, tracking and reporting of all revenue and expense items.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the timely and accurate preparation of consolidated financial statements
  • Manage month-end and year-end Close processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP principles as well as federal, state and local financial requirements
  • Manage the preparation of the weekly restaurant-level Operations reporting, including key financial and operational metrics
  • Prepare and analyze the calculation of monthly store-level bonuses
  • Manage the preparation of payments by accruing expenses, assigning account numbers, requesting disbursements, and reconciling accounts
  • Trouble-shoot issues related to restaurant-level financial schedules with Operations (General Manager, Director of Operations, and Chief Operations Officer)
  • Prepare monthly restaurant P&L templates
  • Develop and maintain reports and files on asset and liability account balances
  • Verify, allocate and prepare general ledger entries for reconciling account balances
  • Develop, maintain and analyze reports via the company’s accounting system
  • Produce error-free accounting and performance reporting
  • Analyze and summarize financial information
  • Manage internal and external audits to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for period, quarterly and annual reporting schedules including tracking and reconciliation of actual to budget capital expenditures for new and existing stores
  • Work closely with development, operations and facilities to review spending and ensure proper accounting classification of capital expenditures vs repair/maintenance expense
  • Develop, document and implement business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, etc
  • Participate in other ad hoc projects and requests
  • Identify and implement new accounting standards
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to accounting and financial management
  • Evaluate contract and lease documents to ensure appropriate coding, accounting and payments
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and expense variance analysis for all capital spending
  • Prepare journal entries for accruals, corrections, and reclassifications
  • Work with third party accounting services provider to ensure the accurate and timely payment of all lease payments (monthly, quarterly, and annually) on all properties, including percentage rent, and the review of all rent expense to ensure consistency with GAAP requirements
  • Track and prepare all reporting to or requested by the landlords
  • Lead the implementation of the new lease accounting rules effective in 2020, including understanding the accounting requirements and lease population, assessing technology needs and capabilities, and developing an implementation road map
  • Work with third party provider to ensure proper and timely payment of property taxes on all properties and coordinating all communication.  Includes reviewing and approving accrual amounts every period for taxes paid during the year
  • Liaison with external tax consultants related to information needed for tax basis of fixed assets
  • Perform other essential duties and various special projects as needed
  • Responsible for training, development and management of staff of two

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting – CPA preferred
  • 5+ years progressively responsible experience in accounting
  • Strong management skills
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting
  • Strong Team player
  • Driven personality and desire to grow with the company
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, math and analytical skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in resolving related problems and/or issues
  • Experience in restaurant and/or multi-unit retail company a plus
