The original Bludso’s BBQ in Compton was opened by Kevin Bludso's in 2008. Kevin Bludso's comes from a long line of Texas pit masters and learned how to BBQ from his grandmother at her roadside stand in Corsicana, TX. Bludso’s Compton was an instant success and quickly became known as the best BBQ in LA. Bludso’s Bar & Que is a full-service, sit down restaurant with TVs and a full bar. We smoke all of our meat on-site to ensure that we serve that same authentic Texas BBQ offering lunch, dinner, and catering - 7 days a week.

The Catering Director is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of catering in a variety of settings such as restaurants, events, and private parties. He/she monitors the overall quality of all the food and service, maintaining a high standard while working within a budget and ensuring they comply with all hygiene requirements within the food industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate events and catering including but not limited to offsite catering, festivals, and corporate events.
  • Generate new event business – consistently source and identify new leads, proactively develop and manage a full pipeline of prospective sales from lead generation through contract creation
  • Respond to all incoming event and catering inquiries, working a pipeline of inquiries, prospects, tentative and definite bookings.
  • Build on current relationships with companies and individuals in order to maximize bookings and ensure repeat business.
  • Prepare all contracts with detailed information regarding room set up, menus, budget, staffing, special requests, seating, etc. 
  • Follow up on contracts to ensure menu selections, deposits, full payments, and guest counts are received by the required deadlines. Ensure all financials are in order and communicate with accounting and management clearly about any relevant information concerning payments.
  • Ensure all catering orders go out as complete and on time.
  • Conduct walkthroughs of the facilities and discuss booking logistics, room options and menus with potential clients.
  • Conceive and develop innovative concepts for promotions that will drive event and catering business.
  • Develop and produce all design elements for events.
  • Create and implement catering and event menus, policies and operating procedures. Coordinate with Chef for revisions and updates of the catering menus regularly, reflecting seasonal menu changes and client requests.
  • Meets weekly with cross-functional departments to review upcoming events and parties.
  • Consistently communicate with all necessary departments any updates or changes to existing events.
  • Collaborate with all department heads to ensure all required staffing levels are met in anticipation of any special events and clearly communicate a strategy for execution of events and catering.
  • Drive community outreach and strategic partnerships. Identify and support local marketing strategies (sponsorships, partnerships, and co-marketing promotions) Remain Positive, Passionate, and Professional at all times and Inspire team members.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in hospitality or related field
  • Be 21 years of age
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • at least four years of previous party planning experience, preferably in a restaurant environment
  • Must be able to provide a portfolio of creative work for consideration
  • A precise eye for detail
  • Knowledge of all classic beverages and how to prepare
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to impact and inspire others.
  • Food Handlers Certificate required
  • Computer/POS literacy required - Knowledge of google suite, catering platforms, and software preferred.

Working Conditions: 

  • Work schedule may vary between early morning to late evening, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Shifts range from 8 – 10 hours. Event days could be longer.
  • Follow safety and sanitation rules and laws at all times.

 Physical Conditions: 

  • Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to work in a standing position for an extended period of time (up to 10 hours).
  • Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver items that may weigh up to 10 to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Frequently occasionally move about inside the premises to access file cabinets, tables, office machinery, etc.
