Marina Del Rey Boat Rentals has a boat rental operation in which patrons may rent motor boats, jet skis, sail boats, kayaks and paddle boards.

Job Summary:

This position welcomes and accommodates guests and staff in an effective and courteous manner. Directly participates in daily operation of water craft rental. Must have a strong dedication to customer service, and a positive, friendly attitude. Must be able to perform a variety of physical tasks in a variety of weather conditions including sun, wind, and rain.

- Provide safety and general information in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Monitor dock area, distribute life jackets and ensure proper usage; clean interior and exterior of boats, follow established opening and closing procedures.
- Monitor activities, keep a clean and orderly appearance and keep Boat Rental Manager informed of inventory needed.
- Report unsafe conditions and equipment, such as paddles, life jackets, etc. to the Boat Rental Manager.

Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Follow daily opening procedures including preparing water craft for rent, bailing rain water out of boats, wiping down boat seats, cleaning up around the dock area and equipment kiosk.

  • Prepare boats each morning before renting water craft to guests. Be prepared to participate in rescues during the day if needed, following established procedures

  • Greet guests who visit the dock, answering questions about the area and water craft rentals

  • Become familiar with and know how to operate all water craft that we rent

  • Rent kayaks, paddle boards, wave Runners, sail boats, and motor boats to guests including life jackets, wet suits, and paddles following established procedures

  • Launch and retrieve kayaks, paddle boards, and jet skis. Driving boats to launch ramps. Assist guests entering and exiting boats according to procedures

  • Give operational instructions to guests who may never have kayaked or paddle boarded before, including directions on where to go in the harbor. Ensure guest safety at all times and call for assistance if needed according to established procedures

  • Monitor guests using rental equipment

  • Must be able to work with diverse populations in a supportive and positive manner and diplomatically handle guest situations which may involve talking them out of renting one craft and renting another due to abilities; always being polite and professional

  • Fueling boats and monitor boat fuel. Refill 5-gallon gasoline containers according to established procedures

  • Know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and emergencies

  • Report to work on time and in complete uniform

  • Communicate closely with all departments to ensure a seamless guest experience

  • Must work a flexible and rotational schedule, including holidays and weekends

  • Empty trash and recycling located around the location as needed

  • Responsible for projects assigned by management.


  • Must be drug free

  • Must have past boat operating experience or basic mechanical ability.

  • Sailing experience preferred

  • Should be able to drive and back a boat trailer

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must have valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.

  • Must be able to swim and pass a simple swim test.

  • Must frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing 65 pounds.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others and follow written/oral instructions and procedures.

  • Strong ability to communicate to the public and emergency personnel and give instructions.

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and handle stressful situations with professionalism.

  • Lifesaving and CPR certifications preferred.

  • CA Boater Safety course preferred

  • Working weekends and holidays are a must.

  • Ideally live in or around Marina del Rey
