The Shift Leader is an entry-level supervisor/manager in our restaurants. The Shift Leader contributes to Shakey’s success through hands-on involvement in the day-to-day restaurant operations. The Shift Leader effectively leads a shift to ensure restaurant operational excellence. Is responsible for assigning work, overseeing guest service, cash handling, food preparations and opening/closing procedures of the restaurant with or without the Assistant Manager or General Manager. 

Requirements: 

  • Valid Food Handler card
  • Minimum 1 year shift leader, or equivalent, experience in food service or retail
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Effective supervisory skills

FOH stations include: Cashier, Food Runner, Busser, and Game Room Attendant. Additional FOH-related tasks, such as beer and wine service, may be assigned from time to time. Restroom and parking lot details are tasks shared among FOH and back-of-house team members.

As a team member you will support restaurant operations through various roles at the point-of-sale counter and in the dining, bar and game areas. The FOH team member will initially learn and perform in one FOH station, but is required to train and progress through all FOH responsibilities over time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform opening and closing procedures for the assigned FOH station.
  • Take customer food orders, enter information into the point-of-sale terminal and accurately process payments following Shakey’s cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Provide outstanding hospitality and service to guests to deliver the Shakey’s Experience.
  • Maintain solid product knowledge to answer questions and make order suggestions.
  • Monitor all FOH areas, game room, restrooms and parking lot, for spills, dirt and/or trash and provide prompt maintenance, as required.
  • Adhere to Shakey’s alcoholic beverage service policy while providing beer and wine service.
  • Comply with Food Handler certification practices regarding personal hygiene, cleanliness and food handling.
  • Answer guest questions regarding games, resolve game malfunctions and assist customers with ticket redemption.
  • Other duties as assigned

BOH stations include: Pizza Cook, Fry Cook, Buffet Attendant, Dough Roller and Dishwasher. Additional BOH-related tasks, such as expediting and salad bar preparation, may be assigned from time to time. Restroom and parking lot details are tasks shared among BOH and front-of-house team members.

The Back-of-House (BOH) function supports restaurant operations through various roles in the kitchen, dough room, dishwashing area and storerooms. The BOH team member will initially learn and perform in one BOH station, but is required to train and progress through all BOH responsibilities over time.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform opening and closing procedures for the assigned BOH station.
  • Prepare and cook food following Shakey’s guidelines and safe food handling procedures.
  • Set up and re-stock food items on the buffet line and salad bar.
  • Wash, peel and cut vegetables.
  • Stock station with ingredients and supplies, as required
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary food preparation work area.
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of food products and ingredients.
  • Comply with Food Handler certification practices regarding personal hygiene, cleanliness and food handling.
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.
  • Safely and effectively operate kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors.
  • Scrape food from dirty dishes and wash by hand or places them in dishwasher.
  • Wash pots, pans, and trays.
  • Clean worktables, walls, refrigerators and food preparation equipment.
  • Remove trash and garbage and dispose in designated containers.
  • Check restrooms for cleanliness and supplies; perform required maintenance and re-stocking.
  • Cross-train to meet performance expectations in all BOH stations.
  • Provide assistance to other BOH stations, as assigned.
