Job Purpose: 

  • Responsible for planning and directing food preparation in a kitchen. This will involve a large degree of supervising other kitchen staff, as well as keeping an eye out for problems that arise in the kitchen and seizing control of a situation at a moment’s notice.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Fill in for the kitchen manager when needed and assist them in resolving any problems that may arise on the job.
  • Open and close restaurant.
  • Plan, direct, and supervise the food preparation and cooking activities.
  • Manage and track inventory.
  • Train and manage staff.
  • Direct and coordinate food or beverage preparation.
  • Maintain operations, policies and quality standards.
  • Maintain safe, secure and healthy facility environment.
  • Quickly and authoritatively delegate job tasks to a staff.
  • Effectively discipline underperforming staff members, as well as provide incentives for staff members to go above and beyond the expectations.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
  • Check the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.
  • Monitor sanitation practices to ensure that employees follow industry standards and regulations.
  • Instruct cooks and other workers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food.

Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Applicants must be 18 or older to apply
  • Experience as a culinary chef preferred
  • Be able to perform administrative tasks
  • Capable of delegating multiple tasks
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and have basic business acumen
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)
