Through the years, Barney's Beanery has been the hangout home to beatniks and rockers, movie stars and struggling actors, rich and poor (and all the in between). 9 decades in the bank and we're still going. We've expanded to several locations around Los Angeles, but we are still a local bar at our core, serving the neighborhood with an easy and fun customer experience. Barney’s is looking for a positive and self-driven Human Resources Assistant to join our team. As an HR Assistant, you will serve as a support to employees and the organization. To be successful in this role, you will be highly organized and have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, managing our time efficiently. This role will be a key contributor to creating and improving processes that support efficiency and effectiveness.
Here You'll Get To:
Support the recruiting function in posting jobs, interview scheduling, and offer letter generation using established processes and system tools.
Support hire processes, including managing background checks, new hire orientation, and I-9 compliance.
Assists with the preparation of the performance review process.
Makes copies, sends mail, scans, and emails documents; and performs clerical functions.
Files documents into appropriate employee files.
Assist in processing Health Benefits for employees
Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
Identify and recommend opportunities for continuous process improvement. Create efficiencies through understanding system capabilities and streamlining processes.
Participate in projects as requested to support the HR function.
Assists with processing of terminations.
Cross-train with other members of the restaurant team to provide backup.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong organizational skills are a must.
- Candidates should be self-starters, able to set and meet goals
- Schedule flexibility and reliable transportation are also requirements.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Prior office, and organizational experience. Prior Human Resources or payroll experience
- Client service mindset with the desire to go above and beyond to support the team and organization
- Ability to communicate and articulate clearly, both written and verbal
- Able to organize and prioritize with guidance; work independently or within teams
- Exercise sound judgment when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters. This position requires the discreet handling of sensitive personnel data, and all candidates should be able to do so in a private and responsible manner according to our guidelines.

Barney's Beanery has been a staple of the Los Angeles restaurant scene for almost 100 years, before there was a "scene"! Our original location sits on Route 66 in West Hollywood, and its raucous and casual environment sets the tone for bar and restaurant that provides so much under one roof. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner from morning till midnight, 365 days a year. We have a full bar with over 40 beers on draft. We are one of the best bars in LA to watch sports, and we are full of other activities and games: billiards, old school arcade games, air hockey, foosball, etc. Add in Karaoke and Trivia nights during the week. We've got it all.
Our team of managers and staff are high-performers in this business. They have to be with such a large spread of offerrings for our customers. Our team works hard and works together to get the job done. We are very proud of the special group of people that work at Barney's and we know our staff is a big reason our customers have kept coming back for decades.
